Apple Crostata
One of my absolute favorite things to do in the fall is go apple picking and I love finding different ways to use all of the apples. This recipe is especially easy if you keep some homemade frozen pie dough on hand, which I highly recommend so you can whip this up in a pinch!
Ingredients
Dough
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 cup butter, cold and diced
2 tablespoons cold water
Filling
3-4 apples cut into bit-sized pieces
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 packet of Paneangeli Vanillina or 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Directions
Place the flour, salt and sugar into a food processor with the blade attachment and pulse to mix everything together
Next, add the butter and pulse until the dough resembles a crumbly consistency. While still pulsing, begin to add the water one tablespoon at a time and continue to pulse until dough comes together
Take the dough and put it on a floured work surface and roll into a ball
Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 45 minutes to an hour
In a medium size bowl, add your chopped apples, lemon juice, salt, cornstarch, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
Toss it all together until well combined
Take your dough and roll it out into a circle on a floured work surface
Transfer it to a parchment lined baking sheet and pour the apple filling into the center and then begin to fold the outside dough in and pinch all the way around
Bake at 375F for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown
Buon appetito!
